US Elections, 2020: Know before you Vote!
"Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war."- Donald Trump
"Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is
unforgivable."- Joe Biden
It's 2020 and it's time for the most awaited US
Presidential elections!
Trump Vs Biden
Red Vs Blue
Elephant Vs Donkey
Republican Vs Democrat
Game on!
When he was asked what would he make of it if he lost the elections, Trump said,
"...the only way we're going to lose this election is if the election is
rigged." The battle is full of twists and turns and the result is unpredictable. The US, with its superior status in the world, plays an influential role in the world during its
elections. The future of democracy across the world depends on it. Its political system needs to be just and fair. Is there any role Gen Z will play here? Yes, probably the most important one. Though the Generation Z and millennial of the USA do not have much to choose from but a wise decision at this point is needed especially for the country that is worst hit due to the pandemic.
Let's quickly go
through the accomplishments and failures of the past 4 years of Trump's tenure
before we discuss the present situation.
WHAT TRUMP DID?
Trump signed the First Step Act into
law in December 2018, marking the first legislative victory in years for
advocates seeking to reform the criminal justice system. This bill paved the way for
better treatment of prisoners, more opportunities for them after imprisonment, and special laws for juveniles and pregnant inmates. ( Being Human) Trump's
government was responsible for the greatest tax reform in history which
slashed corporate tax by a whopping 14%. (Trump card)
Coming to his biggest failures,
Trump's response to a deadly neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia,
remains one of the most controversial moves of his tenure. Trump liked to play
the "blame game" and often his bold statements hurt the sentiments of various
groups of people. The Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy on illegal
border crossings led to the separations of at least 5,500 families and saw
children placed in cages. It was termed as "nothing less than
government-sanctioned child abuse." by a prominent leader.
WHO WILL WIN THE RACE?
"When the looting starts, the shooting starts."- said not by a famous celebrity but the most controversial person, famous all across the world, Donald Trump.
(Reminds me of George Floyd case)
Can Joe Biden wrestle enough away to seize the presidency? Or will Donald Trump romp home to a second term?
President Donald Trump has vowed to “prohibit” American companies from replacing local workers with lower-cost foreign workers, a key fallout of outsourcing, and continue his hardline position on immigration. His “Fighting for You” agenda also promises to “end reliance” on China by encouraging American firms to bring back operations and continue the “America First” foreign policy.
(Is he the one impeached in 2019?)
Joe Biden, on the other hand, has promised to reform the temporary visa system to bring high-skilled employees and establish a wage-based allocation process and establish enforcement mechanisms to ensure they are aligned with the labour market and not used to undermine wages.
There are nearly 1.2 million Indian-American voters in the US. Recently, the Trump campaign released a video titled ‘Four More Years’ featuring clips showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Texas last year and the US President ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad this February.
Biden has also promised to work with India in the Indo-Pacific to ensure no country, including China, “is able to threaten its neighbours with impunity” and will have “no tolerance” for cross-border terrorism in South Asia.
It is obvious to see Biden playing the COVID card. Trump's non-managerial skills at the time of COVID can help Biden get votes. Also, while many countries have made it compulsory for citizens to use face masks as a precautionary measure against the virus, the president has neither mandated nor is he himself seen using one on most occasions.
(Probably now he'll use one after himself getting impacted cause of Coronavirus.)
Biden will continue to hammer Trump as a fundamental threat to democracy and try to make the case that the president is a selfish, corrupt figure incapable of empathy. Biden will sell himself as a steady, experienced hand with a progressive policy agenda on issues including climate action and criminal justice -- just not as progressive as Trump tries to make him when he blasts Biden as the frontman for a “radical” takeover.
(But don't underestimate Trump, he's been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize.)
On the other hand, Trump has undoubtedly done quite much for the US in these 4 years and has decried the purposeful distortion of America’s history and taken action to promote knowledge of the Nation’s true story, values, and ideals. (Odds though are in favor of Biden presently.)
One thing is clear, though: The Constitution sets Inauguration Day as Jan. 20, and barring catastrophic developments, either Trump or Biden will take the oath of office that day.
Now everything is on the youth of the US, it will be really interesting to see who they think the best between the worst.
